French Lavender is a flowering plant in the mint family that’s easily identified by its sweet floral scent. This fragrance oil has a floral, herbaceous, fresh scent with a balsamic woody undertone. French Lavender (the type of lavender fragrance oil we use most often in our products) is reminiscent of a lovely, fragrant bouquet of flowers picked fresh from the French countryside. Its floral and herbaceous qualities combined with its balsamic, woody undertone are reputed to produce a peaceful, soothing, and grounding effect.
Lavender is said to have many benefits including aiding in getting a restful night’s sleep. A study published in March 2017 in the British Association of Critical Nurses found lavender essential oil to be an effective remedy in improving the sleep quality of intensive care unit (ICU) patients who had difficulty sleeping. Some people have an aversion to the smell of lavender. Researchers at Duke University in North Carolina, believe that differences in the way that different people react to the same smell are a result of our DNA. There are also arguments that variations in people’s reactions to the same smell are in fact caused by conditioning that associates different smells with previous positive or negative experiences.  Whether different reactions to smells is a result of nature, nurture or a little of both, it does seem that some people love the smell of lavender while others absolutely hate it. If you are one of the unlucky few that wouldn’t delight in a bar of our lavender soap, don’t worry we also sell many other beautifully fragranced products.Â
